The Canal is is the oldest continuously operated canal in North America. Most of the locks are still operated by hand, using the same mechanisms that were used to operate the locks in 1832.
You really need to check out the Rideau Canal in the Winter you can skate the entire length of 7.8 Kilometres and in the Summer rent a bike and ride along the bike bath. There is also the option for the Canal Boat Cruise so there are plenty of options to experience the worlds longest canal.
